Workshop on documentary filmmaking and marketing to satellite channels for students of the Department of Cinema and Television Arts

The Department of Cinema and Television Arts held a workshop on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in the college’s television studio on documentary filmmaking and ways to market them to satellite channels by the department’s students.

The first axis of the workshop, which was given by lecturer Dr. Nabil Wadi, lecturers Muhammad Adnan Hussein and Abdullah Faisal, and the head of the Media and Government Communications Division, Engineer Anas Juma, included the mechanisms for building a documentary film that carries important messages to the audience that the satellite television channels address.

While the second axis, which was lectured by lecturer Muhammad Adnan Hussein, included formulating the report visually and linguistically, which is positively reflected in the value of the report or film and the good financial returns that the student can reap.

The third axis, in which Assistant Professor Abdullah Faisal lectured, dealt with the communication mechanisms that the documentary filmmaker should establish between him and the media officials in the satellite channels and the method of presenting cooperation with the aim of producing documentaries for the channel, which may face some administrative difficulties in assigning its correspondents to different regions and the difficulties that the correspondent may face due to his lack of knowledge of the cultural, artistic and political possibilities and activities. In addition to choosing the appropriate and important message that the channel seeks.

For his part, the head of the Media and Government Communications Division, Engineer Anas Juma, reviewed the mechanisms of communication with officials in the channels and creating bonds of trust and cooperation between the student and the channel and maintaining this relationship even after graduation to provide a greater advantage in choosing the outputs of the Cinema and Television Arts Department for their scientific and academic experience.

The seminar aimed to encourage students to develop their skills in filming, directing, editing, writing commentary, and choosing suitable topics for production. The lecturers recommended that students follow developments in the field of documentary films, in addition to investing in the high technical capabilities of mobile communication devices and applications that facilitate the student’s work in this field, as well as benefiting from the latest developments in artificial intelligence and employing it in the documentary film industry.
