The College of Arts holds an awareness seminar on Crimean-Terrestrial Hemorrhagic Fever

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Diyala, Professor Dr. Tahseen Hussein Mubarak, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Professor Dr. Alaa Shaker Mahmoud, and in cooperation with the Diyala Health Department and the College of Medicine at the University of Diyala, the College of Fine Arts, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, held an awareness seminar on Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever in the theater hall of the College of Fine Arts, University of Diyala, on Tuesday, 19-11-2024.
The seminar lecturers, Dr. Wissam Saadoun Shafiq from the Diyala Health Department and Dr. Arej Attia Hussein from the College of Medicine, University of Diyala, explained that hemorrhagic fever, Crimean-Congo fever, or Congo fever is one of the acute forms of hemorrhagic fever with high mortality, which is transmitted through the bite of a tick infected with the virus or through the body fluids of an infected person or infected animals.
The lecturers also indicated that the infected animal does not show symptoms of infection, and this is one of the dangerous points of the disease for humans. As for the virus that causes this disease, it is a virus belonging to the family of viruses, which is characterized by high genetic diversity.
Laboratory results of this disease include: thrombocytopenia, increased liver and muscle enzymes, and the pathological mechanism is still unclear, but it may involve excessive production of pro-inflammatory cytokines with a defect in the innate immune response, and the incubation period of the disease may reach 14 days.
