The Department of Fine Arts at the College of Fine Arts, University of Diyala, organized a comprehensive awareness symposium on the dangers of drugs and their impact on youth on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. The event was attended by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Golan Hussein Alwan, who inaugurated the accompanying exhibition held in the college gardens.
This activity was supervised by Assistant Professor Baidaa Anwar Razouqi, Head of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the college, and included the participation of several faculty members and students.
The symposium was organized as part of the college’s commitment to raising community awareness and promoting a culture of prevention against this serious scourge. Drugs are among the most dangerous negative social phenomena that threaten the stability of individuals and societies, as they destroy minds, disintegrate families, and deteriorate productivity and economic activity.
The exhibition addressed the definition of drugs and their types, their health, psychological, and mental effects, the reasons for their spread among various segments of society, especially youth, and the groups targeted by drug dealers. It also highlighted the most prominent diseases and disabilities caused by drug use and presented practical ways to reduce its spread by strengthening the role of families and educational institutions, promoting ongoing awareness, and outlining treatment and rehabilitation methods for those who fall victim to drug abuse.
In conclusion, the event witnessed widespread interaction from students who emphasized the importance of such programs in protecting the promising generation and establishing a safe university environment free from negative phenomena.
